Build what is yours.Strengthen what we share.

HiA brings people, enterprises and communities into a collaboration ecosystem – with individual private places to work, team spaces to plan, Digital Homes for organisations and ways to connect on your terms.

Start by thinking about the space you need and the work you, your team or your organisation need to do. Then choose the support and level of control required while building relationships that can grow with you.

Ubuntu as an operating principle

Our capacity grows
through relationship.

We want what strengthens one participant to create the possibility of strengthening many. In practice, that means useful tools, human support, respect for organisational choices and an economically sustainable way to build shared capability.

A relationship designed
to grow with your work.

Your work may begin with a few people sharing ideas. It may need an organisation’s own files, permissions and meeting space. It may involve collaboration with others whose responsibilities must remain separate.

What matters is not only what the tools can do, but how we as individuals, teams and organisations can retain our identities, exercise meaningful control and remain responsible for how we use them.

HiA’s role is to help you choose a workable starting point, make the responsibilities clear and agree the support you need. You do not have to own infrastructure to have a meaningful say in how your organisation works.

Participation comes first.

Join the HiA community without a subscription barrier. Participate, publish, convene and build relationships. After joining, you may choose to make a one-off contribution to shared capability; that choice does not change your access or status.

Eligible students can also use a light Workspace route for Files and Talk chat, with a modest storage allocation confirmed by HiA.

HiA Digital Home

Your organisation. Its own space.

An environment with your organisation’s identity, members, permissions and governance. Keep your work together while HiA provides the agreed operational support.

A smaller organisation can need a Digital Home too. Governance matters as well as size.

HiA Federation

Work together. Remain distinct.

Explore collaboration between compatible environments by consent, without merging identities or governance.

Supported functions, compatibility and responsibilities are assessed before a connection is promised.

Different operating arrangements serve different needs. Bear in mind that more infrastructure does not necessarily mean a better fit.

Managed
Digital Home

Your organisation’s own environment, operated by HiA. Supporting infrastructure can be shared without making your organisation part of somebody else’s workspace.

A practical starting point for many organisations. Uwezo 15, 30 and 50 help us assess capacity and workload.

Dedicated Managed
Digital Home

A HiA-managed arrangement with additional infrastructure isolation or dedicated resources where scale, governance or workload justifies them.

Assessment and quotation. Sensitive work needs a discussion; it does not automatically require a dedicated server.

Independent
Digital Home

A Digital Home on infrastructure your organisation controls or sources, with HiA’s assessment, deployment, handover and continuing support agreed separately.

Assessment and quotation. Only expressly selected ongoing HiA services recur; your own supplier and operating costs remain.

A managed service can remain the right long-term choice. Where your needs change, discuss capacity, portability, migration and responsibilities with HiA. Any additional work is scoped and agreed.

Strengthen what we share.

Ubuntu gives the relationship a practical direction: participation should come before barriers, capability should circulate and what strengthens one part of the community should create possibilities for others.

Shared capabilityParticipation, contribution and mutual responsibility

Participation first. Contribution by choice.

HiA Network participation is complimentary. People and organisations should have the chance to enter the shared space, take part and build relationships before any transaction is asked of them.

If you are able and wish to contribute, HiA may invite a voluntary one-off contribution to shared capability. That contribution does not buy a higher place in the Network or change the access of someone who does not contribute.

Paid services such as Workspace and Digital Homes remain available when private collaboration, organisational identity, greater support or a different level of control is required.

Community BenefitSupport applied to the right service, not a lesser service

Serious capability. Support that can last.

HiA may support qualifying charities, NGOs, non-profits, social enterprises, community-benefit organisations and comparable initiatives. Support is assessed by HiA, not assumed from a label.

Where support is approved, the normal service value and the Community Benefit Credit are shown separately. The aim is an appropriate service with sustainable support – not an inferior technical product.

Normal service value– Community Benefit Credit= Amount payable

Recognition or registration is relevant evidence but does not create automatic entitlement to a fixed credit. Unavoidable supplier and pass-through costs are not automatically reduced. HiA’s assessment is a service/pricing decision, not a legal or tax determination.

Community BuildsA developing HiA direction for schools and community institutions

Capability that can circulate.

HiA is developing a Community Builds model in which voluntary contributions and partnerships can be pooled towards appropriate Digital Homes for schools and other community institutions, especially where access to suitable tools is otherwise limited.

The organisation receiving a build should have a place of its own, with its own identity and responsibilities. Contributions would support the build and its continuity; they would not create donor ownership or control over the organisation’s environment.

This is a developing direction, not yet a public pledge programme. HiA will only invite build-linked pledges when the delivery, support and continuity model is ready.

Find what fits. See what it costs.

All standard public figures are in Rwandan francs (RWF). Network participation is complimentary. Paid service figures are interim and remain subject to scope, taxes and any separately agreed costs. For international customers, the proposal or payment instructions confirm the permitted payment currency and available payment methods.

One Home. Clear costs.

Uwezo 15, 30 and 50 are capacity reference points – not prestige tiers. Workload and governance matter as well as headcount.

Year 1 establishes the Digital Home. From Year 2, the one-time Foundation is no longer part of the service cost.

Managed Digital Home interim reference amounts. Monthly equivalents are shown first for comparison; formal annual amounts remain visible in the final column.

The per-person figures are illustrations at the stated reference team sizes, not per-seat tariffs. Whole-Home amounts remain the charging basis. A smaller team on the same capacity reference has a higher per-person equivalent. Monthly figures are annual amounts divided by 12; they are not an instalment quote. Taxes, third-party costs and separately scoped work are not included.

What the Foundation establishes

A separate organisational environment: identity and standard branding, members and permissions, administrator configuration, core collaboration setup, standard backup integration where applicable and agreed initial onboarding and orientation.

The proposal specifies the apps, storage, backup/retention, support, onboarding and responsibility boundaries. Bespoke configuration or substantial migration is scoped separately.

Payment that fits your circumstances

Annual, twice-yearly (biannual), quarterly or monthly arrangements may be agreed. Annual payment will normally offer the lowest overall cost.

Available payment methods may include card, bank transfer and mobile money, depending on the payer’s location and the payment route. For international customers, the permitted payment currency and any applicable conversion are confirmed before payment.

A monthly equivalent is not an instalment quote. Your proposal confirms the deposit or milestones, payment dates, service term and any financing or administration adjustment. Year 2 figures show the current interim recurring rate, not a price guarantee for future renewals.

A few important distinctions.

Does a Digital Home mean a dedicated physical server?

No. A Managed Digital Home is a distinct organisational environment. HiA can share supporting infrastructure while keeping organisational identity, members, permissions, governance and state separate. A Dedicated Managed Digital Home adds an assessed infrastructure/isolation arrangement where it is needed.

Can we have a Digital Home with fewer than six people?

Yes. An organisation may need its own environment at any size. The five-person Workspace limit is not a rule that smaller organisations must share. Uwezo references help assess capacity; they do not rank the importance of organisations.

Where will our information be hosted?

Your proposal will confirm the actual primary hosting location, backup arrangements, relevant providers, administrative access and responsibilities for your service. HiA serves communities across Global Africa, including the continent, diaspora and international partners. Our infrastructure will continue to develop to support appropriate privacy, control, resilience and reach across the communities we serve.

What does an Independent Digital Home change?

Your organisation controls or sources the infrastructure, subject to a readiness review. HiA’s deployment, handover and continuing responsibilities are agreed. There is no automatic later-year HiA infrastructure, Uwezo or member charge; only selected continuing HiA services recur. Your own infrastructure, supplier and operating costs remain. A managed service can also remain the right long-term choice.

How do Federation and the Network differ?

HiA Network is the complimentary participation and community layer. HiA Federation connects otherwise separate environments by consent. Supported functions, compatibility, data-sharing responsibilities and any work needed are assessed before a connection is promised. No universal cross-application sharing or automatic Federation subscription is offered here.
