Overview of the Topic:
The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence is a global campaign aimed at ending violence against women and girls. In 2024, the focus is on Technology Facilitated Gender Based Violence (TFGBV), an emerging but under-addressed issue in Rwanda. TFGBV includes online harassment, cyberstalking, deep fake pornography, and the non-consensual sharing of intimate images, all of which have become more prevalent with increased digital connectivity.
Objective:
The campaign aims to equip individuals, justice sector actors, and key stakeholders with the knowledge to recognize, prevent, and respond to Technology Facilitated Gender Based Violence. Through our Stakeholder Engagement, we aim to bring together key actors in the East Africa region in the fight against TFGBV for a comprehensive discussion on the issue, identifying challenges, solutions, and collaboration opportunities.
Expected Outcome:
A joint action plan outlining how stakeholders can collaborate to reduce TFGBV and improve support for victims, launching an online campaign against TFGBV, and advocacy for policy and regulation.
